This year I added a new location to the mini-session series... Chastain Park. This is a spot I'll definitely be using in the future as it's just BEAUTIFUL. Enjoy part 2 of the spring mini-sessions!
Wow. just wow. The leaves were perfectly golden, the breeze was something out of a movie, and these families were an absolute blast to be with.
In no particular order, I present the families I got to spend the weekend with, during the greatest weather Grant Park has ever seen.
This isn't work. This is a dream. Thank you all.
The first time I met Ali she was pregnant with her second daughter, Jovie. She was rubbing her perfectly round belly and laughing as she told me that she was in fact already more than a week overdue.
Now Jovie just turned 3, and a new baby boy will be joining the family any day now!!
That's right, this smiling, infectious woman, is 9 MONTHS PREGNANT.
And she looks like this.
Ali is truly a blessing. She's a bright spot to any day. She's one of those people you just have to be around as often as possible. Her zest for life and genuine concern for others are two of her most noticeable and endearing qualities.
Even with baby right around the corner (when I spent the majority of my time laying around), Ali's still bouncing around and taking it all in stride.
She truly loves being pregnant, and even in a self-described 'huge belly' state is so genuinely comfortable in her own skin. I know her pregnancies have not been easy, but it never gets her down. It's incredible to witness. Shouldn't we all be like this? Less berating of self... more embracing, loving, and appreciating our awesome bodies for how beautiful they are and the amazing things they can do...
Oh friend, I'm so thankful to know you during this special time of life. You are such a joy to be around and I absolutely adore your dear heart.
I can't wait to meet that little boy!!
Brian and Sarah's family of two will soon be three. Baby boy Ethan is due to join the family in just a few short weeks.
New kisses, new sounds, late evenings, slow days, and oh so many diapers.
Family and friends gathered for a beautiful shower to help the transition to parenthood and ensure they were well equipped with items for the year ahead.
If the thoughtfulness of the gifts is any indication of how well this family is loved, then ohmygoodness. So many beautiful handmade and keepsake items, including a lot of 'little chef' items (which made Daddy Brian pretty happy!).
It is obvious that Sarah is so very adored, and understandably. She's got a warmth to her that makes you feel so welcomed. I just can't wait to see her holding that little boy.
Brian and Sarah, thank you for including me in your celebration and congratulations on your impending addition! Can't wait to meet Ethan in a few short weeks!!
One of my favorite memories from childhood was the family meal. Growing up in a family with 8 children, 6 of them boys, much of our togetherness revolved around preparing and eating food. This tradition continues to this day, although if we're being honest the latter of the two is by far my favorite.
When the Donahue family contacted me about a maternity shoot, they said they didn't want anything planned or staged... they just wanted me to be with them as they prepare and share a meal.
Just capturing the moments that happen for them every evening.
In case I haven't mentioned it before, I love to capture people in their life... doing what they do, in a place they enjoy being in, with people that make them stupid happy.
Rochelle and Donny have a beautiful boy, Nolan, who just turned 2. Their family is looking forward to the birth of their second son in just a few short months.
While I've known Rochelle and Donny for awhile, I loved the chance to see them in their home... their element. Recipe up on the ipad, Nolan helping to measure and stir, (and occasionally crushing an egg or tackling Daddy). Everything was so smooth and seamless between the three of them.
They are so relaxing to be around that I had to keep reminding myself I was WORKING.
My absolute favorite part of their evening routine is Nolan's post-bath naked prancing. It's like watching a tiny clydesdale dance around. Naked babies = the best.
This family is a delight. Hope this glimpse into their evening routine reminds you that the simplest parts of our days (like the family dinner) are often the most important.
After dinner, and playtime, the bedtime ritual begins...
Donahues, thank you for inviting me into your nightly ritual. It was a privilege to see the crazy fun that you guys have together.
